This was more a stew than soup so I added some beef broth with the water. I fabricated it for a family of 12 but have no left-overs...as well many people really liked it. Information technology needs more seasoning so I used Mrs. Dash instead of salt. I used frozen veggies instead of canned for lower sodium and I did not pare the potatoes (for more fiber and vitamins). It was succulent and easy to make.

This is our go to meal for common cold weather. Have been making it for many years. Use less footing meat simply lots of frozen / fresh vegetables, low sodium beef broth, no salt seasonings, fresh or stale herbs to gustation, lots of garlic, low or no table salt tomatoes and tomato sauce and sometimes a little pasta. Occasionally grate some Parmesan on summit of each serving. Serve with a good crusty bread.

Overall I would say this is non bad. As Mardi posted, this was more stew than soup. I didn't have whatsoever beefiness broth or extra room in my pot so I fabricated information technology this pretty much un-doctored. I don't think this had plenty liquids to actually call this soup, simply it did striking the spot. It was a bit bland; i would recommend adding some more spices to add flavor.

While I started out using my dutch oven, by the time I added all the vegetables (fresh or frozen-the purse mix with okra in it was a good add-on), I had to move it to the crock pot. 11/17/2014
Would make this again.
02/08/2014
I doctored this up a scrap. Added 30 ounces of beef broth, fresh garlic, and ii table spoons of Frank'south hot sauce to requite it a fleck of a zing. The added beef broth makes it a soup instead of a stew. I would showtime by post-obit the recipe and let your taste be the driver.
12/24/2013
Not one drop was left....great soup. I made this the other day while I was doing last minute preps for Christmas. 09/03/2013
Very good recipe. Used fresh vegetables instead of canned. As well, I finely chopped 2 of our fresh chili's and threw them in to simmer with with my beef and vegetable mixture. Lastly, I added some fresh chopped kale merely near the end to give a footling more dimension in flavor.
x/16/2016

12/22/2013

Used ground turkey, no peas, can of beef stock
08/24/2014
This was a delicious soup! I added two bouillon cubes (Knorr brand) with hot water before I added it to the soup. It was more than similar a stew since it was so thick. I cut the recipe in half likewise. The hotter y'all want the soup, the more pepper you add together. I will definitely making this again.
02/23/2015

08/08/2014

This is a savory hearty soup. My married man said this is his favorite soup I accept always made. Yummy!
02/21/2015
This was nifty only must admit, I changed it upwards quite a bit because I was emptying out the freezer & pantry due to leaving our vacation habitation after several months. I used ground craven and all of the veggies came from the freezer. I also used a can of diced tomatoes and liked the $.25 of tomato plant for color. Many added goop, I had a 48oz box of low sodium beef broth that needed to exist used, I added the entire matter and loved the result. Hubs commented he really liked it and we have several containers in the freezer for the last few weeks of vacation!
02/24/2015
So peachy!
03/26/2017
I've been making this stew for the concluding 40+ years. Information technology's a great way to save on those high beefiness prices for stew meat and yous go meat in pretty much every bite using ground beefiness instead. I haven't establish any one family or friend who hasn't loved stew nonetheless information technology's fabricated. It's and so versatile that you can literally dump in every affair but the kitchen sink and it will ever turn out yummy! You tin can make it with tomato juice if yous don't accept lycopersicon esculentum sauce or you tin omit both and just add canned diced tomatoes. You can add beef broth (liquid, cubed or granular) or none at all. You can add together whatsoever veggies your family unit likes including ones you wouldn't normally use in a stew and it volition still come out good! Apply whatever seasoning your family likes best merely practice add some garlic to your browning beef (it actually adds to the beefiness flavour) every bit well equally some diced onions every bit your browning your meat. You can apply all canned veggies, home canned veggies or frozen veggies or a combination there of. I tin't imagine anyone screwing upwards a stew especially if yous just utilise what your family unit likes. I don't normally employ bay leaf in my stew but I imagine it would only add another layer of flavor. For those new cooks out there don't be afraid to dump any veggies your family unremarkably likes in it. I promise information technology will come out amazing. Sometimes I fifty-fifty put in some cabbage in our stew if I have it but not e'er. We also like a few diced bell peppers in ours. This stuff is merely as skillful warmed up a day or even three
02/xi/2015
This soup was fantastic, my whole family unit loved it, though my center daughter said it was non "soup" because it was so thick. Making it again next week. Only change was I used beef broth instead of water and probably added a whole cup and I likewise threw in some Spicy V8 that I had left over. Seriously, so good!!
11/26/2013
This was pretty adept. I used ground deer meat instead of beefiness. If I make it again, I will only use 1 lb of meat. It is definitely more of a stew than a soup like other accept said in their comments.
09/15/2015
Fabricated this as the recipe says, with the exception of adding beef broth since I like my soups a lilliputian more, well, soupy.. Information technology was very good but seems to need more than seasonings. Simply still pretty darn expert!
11/06/2013
I really enjoyed this. It was a neat bones recipe. I altered it some to go far my own, of class. I rarely don't. ( I used 2 cans of rotel and fresh cherry tomatoes in place of the cans of tomato plant the recipe asked for, and a few more seasonings) I also served it over rice. It was fantastic! Thank you!
11/05/2014
This turned out so delicious! The only matter that I changed was that I added about a TBS of minced garlic and i Qt. of beefiness broth. I didn't accept whatever peas and I used ii spice mixtures that I love and utilise frequently- (Bragg Organic Sprinkle 24 herbs and spices seasoning and Kroger Zesty Seasoning Alloy) about 2 tsp of each. Other than that, I followed the recipe that was given. We will definitely make this one once more!
ten/13/2016
favor was just a little flat, deadening cooked ground round, cut it in small parts and added to the hamburger, which richened the favor. It'south very good!!
01/05/2015
So far information technology smells great (and tastes great as well)!! I added 32oz of beefiness stock and tuckered the beans and peas (if I feel information technology's as well runny, I effigy I can add together Arrowroot powder to thicken). I also added about 1TBS of Oregano, Parsley, and Basil along with a lot of extra Thyme with liberal salt and pepper. I think the seasonings are a little light, plus I'g going through an Italian phase :) I likewise added about 4 garlic cloves to the beefiness while information technology was browning, omitted the corn, and used sweetness potatoes instead of reg potatoes. We shall see! I'll report back!
02/14/2015
Very good! I added to cups of beef broth. Also 2-4 cups water and lots of garlic.
11/05/2014
Astonishing flavor the next 24-hour interval, nosotros added body of water salt pepper and garlic pulverization to the mix
02/12/2015
This soup was so simple to make and turned out delicious!! Reading the reviews was really helpful. Using ground chuck, I didn't need to drain the meat considering there was hardly any grease. I omitted the water and used two containers of beef broth (about 32 oz. each). Also, I don't use the thyme or bay leaf considering I didn't have any on mitt, and it however turned out great. Sometimes I'll add a small can of love apple paste if I'm going for a stronger tomato flavor. This soup has become a staple in our home!! Thanks!!
06/08/2015
I used footing turkey instead of ground beef and I added a cup of Quinoa in the last fifteen minutes of cooking. I ended upwards adding several (I lost rails) cups of water for it to be a soup. Possibly I volition add vegetable stock next time.
09/23/2013
I really liked it! I also had to add beef broth because it was besides much similar a stew. Information technology was succulent though!
12/15/2014
Since this recipe received great reviews, I decided to double the recipe on the first try. I'm glad I did. Showtime, I agree with what anybody said on calculation more liquid. I added 2 cups of no sodium beef broth, and it wasn't enough (I didn't have whatsoever more than room). My soup even so came out like a stew. Didn't bother me because it was so tasty. I did some small changes to the original recipe: I sauteed the onions with the beef and substituted the peas & green beans with frozen edamame & frozen cauliflower (hubby doesn't like peas or green beans). Volition definitely be making this over again.
03/15/2015
Hearty and easy to make. I retrieve I would cutting downward the number of potatoes though. I used 3 and that was a chip besides many. Likewise, exist sure to add together a little water each time yous reheat and cut the potatoes upwards pocket-size.
11/23/2014
This is a really tasty soup! The only thing I added was some salt (to taste) and rather than canned peas/corn/beans I used frozen.
12/29/2014
I substituted and omitted some ingredients. Namely: 2 cans of Delmonte mixed vegetables instead of listed veggies one can of Campbell's lycopersicon esculentum soup instead of tomato sauce Omitted the bay foliage Scrumptious
02/03/2018
I concord with many of the other opinions that this was more stew than soup and that it was a little bland. Maybe some thyme or bay leaves adjacent fourth dimension. With salt and pepper it was pretty good.
12/21/2016
This was Then piece of cake and so good. I added garlic to the ground beef and onions. I left out the celery and used canned carrots that I put in with the balance of the veggies. I used beefiness goop instead of water. I also added some Italian seasoning. Served it with cornbread and we thoroughly enjoyed it.
eleven/23/2019
easy and tasty. Can easily use any vegetable.
01/21/2019
Followed comments to brand information technology Neat! Will make once more. 1lb basis beef. Added 1 can garbanzo beans, four garlic cloves, 1 tbls oregano . No peas or pea water, so made it upwardly with four cups water with bouillon (until covered with liquid). Cooked on High for 2.v hours in slow cooker.
09/21/2020
Neat base! I only had a 28oz can of crushed tomatoes and didn't want to waste material whatever, and so I tossed it all in with the rest of the ingredients (in addition to 1.5 cartons of beef broth, double the recommended seasonings, & plenty of salt) and information technology was great! I'd recommend adding the beef broth if you want more of a soup than a stew! It all fit well within an 8 quart Dutch oven. Will definitely make again this wintertime.
12/eleven/2016
Made a few modifications, added beefy mushroom soup and a second can of tomato sauce. It turned out skilful. My 14 yr former raved about it.
01/25/2017
i made it with italian crushed tomatoes, added some salt and used frozen peas instead of canned.
03/22/2020
I added a can of love apple soup and some beef burgoo to this and information technology made it even better!!!!
01/26/2016
Excellent! Didn't add together peas, corn or thyme (my husband claims thyme tastes like pines needles). Information technology was piece of cake and cooked while working on homework. Volition make again and again, I was told about v times..."Great Dinner Idea"! Enjoy!
02/20/2019
I'm assuming the absenteeism of table salt in the recipe was an oversight. You will certainly need some unless you savor really banal food. I suggest beef bouillon cubes dissolved in humid h2o. Recipe was far too thick. 1/4 loving cup of water won't come close to making it like soup. I had to add near 4 cups of water besides equally salt and finally some hot sauce to give information technology any flavor. It was all the same pretty thick.
09/xv/2016
Really skilful base to a vegetable soup. I stuck to the recipe but used frozen veggies and added 3 cups of beefiness broth. Also used oregano and a little cayenne pepper for a little seize with teeth! So so good! Added a dollop of cottage cheese in the middle before serving astonishing soup!
08/xiv/2018
I didn't have whatsoever peas on hand, then I used dark-green beans instead. I cutting my potatoes a piffling larger than 1 inch, and so information technology took longer to cook. Simply information technology was a huge hit with my hubby and I, and he'south not really a large soup eater. My kids are picky and they didn't like it, but they really simply desire junk :( I will definitely be making this once again in the time to come.
08/11/2016
Delicious with changes. Like other reviewers said, it was a stew, not a soup, and so I added ii c. of beef goop. I used no common salt tomatoes and so added i tsp. garlic salt and a few shakes of regular salt. I also added 1/2 tsp. basil.
06/09/2019
I fabricated the recipe exactly as written. Information technology was delicious and my family unit loved it. Will definitely brand it again.
10/25/2015
The original recipe was also thick for my taste. But the overall taste was fantastic. I added a carton of chicken broth, because I didn't accept beef broth on hand, and about a loving cup of ketchup. I similar the bit of sugariness brought in my the ketchup. All that extra liquid I added got mopped up by grilled cheese sandwiches. Which I recall are the perfect compliment to this cold atmospheric condition soup.
eleven/02/2016
I fabricated this only how it says only instead of footing beef added albondigas (meatballs) and cooked in the crockpot. Served with buttered tortillas. Yummy! Will definitely keep this i!
ten/23/2017
Made it for the 1st time, it was okay. I had to adjust the recipe a bit because I didn't have all the ingredients. I would like to make once more before giving a more complete review only it'south a fairly basic vegetable soup recipe... difficult to go wrong.
12/31/2016
Very piece of cake recipe! All the same, I used frozen veggies & added beef broth to it.
07/16/2020
I've fabricated this soup/stew twice now and both times it's come out fabulous! Married man loves information technology and it's a dandy recipe when you lot have even just a 1/two lb of leftover ground beefiness. Giving it 4 stars only because I call back information technology's a few spices/seasonings short of existence perfection merely I haven't quite figured out what those are. Strongly suggest seasoning the heck out of your beef while browning with pepper, garlic powder, onion powder and some salt. Definitely added beef broth and used frozen mixed veggies. We aren't large on chunks of tomatoes in soup then I used tomato sauce and a can of diced tomatoes but only the liquid. Finish off with grated Parmesan! Will definitely brand over and over!
03/27/2020
The simply thing I did different was I added a can of stewed tomatoes. The soup was excellant! I received a lot of compliments. Everyone asked me to go far once again. I volition gladly brand it over and over once more! It really IS like shooting fish in a barrel. Only, that'due south OUR secret.
12/23/2019
Had some neighbors over for a little Christmas gather and it was a big hitting. Since I had read some of the previous comments and I like a lot of broth, I added both beef and chicken goop. I added extra thyme, two bay leaves and some garlic powder. Turned out great.
12/11/2018
This was so piece of cake! I don't use can veggies so I used frozen.
11/04/2015
added 24oz tomatoe sauce plus 6cups beefiness broth family loved it
12/12/2017
This was a proficient basic soup. I used frozen vegetables for the peas, green beans, and corn b/c that is what I prefer. Besides, instead of but the thyme and bay leaves I used an Italian seasoning alloy. Beef broth worked adept equally the base instead of just water and you definitely need more than listed if you want it to truly be a soup verses stew texture. My husband liked it and my kids didn't mutter about information technology and so I see that as a win!
12/17/2016
Very tasty soup! I accidentally poured the entire can of corn into the pot without draining and rinsing information technology outset. I think that made the soup taste a little sweet. I tried to counteract the sweetness with more beef broth and a trivial salt. I skipped the can of green beans considering I ran out of room in my dutch oven. Overall very good soup! I'll definitely make this once again.
09/13/2016
I am agoraphobic and don't go out my house unless my hubby takes me. I was really running low on groceries and husband was working late. I had all of the ingredients for this except carrots. I had shredded ones for my salad. I used frozen mixed vegetables that had carrots and a few minutes before serving threw in some of the shredded carrots. I had everything else on hand. This was really good! The all-time was my husband had a meal ready when he got home. Thank yous for sharing.
09/xx/2015
Delicious and easy :) I added a picayune marjoram.
02/03/2018
Quick, like shooting fish in a barrel, and filling! I added beef broth instead of water :)
05/31/2020
Information technology turned out bland then I added beef goop and it tastes fantastic!!
12/26/2016
I was looking for a soup recipe to use some leftover prime rib in and this was the perfect one! I modified the recipe a fiddling using the diced meat in place of the footing beef and used beef stock instead of water for boosted flavor. I prefer frozen vegetables to canned and so used frozen corn and peas! Served with cheesy bread!
